Zee News Rev Falls 52.8%

Zee News has recorded a 52.8% fall in consolidated revenues year on year to Rs. 648.5 million in the quarter ended June 2010. Net profit fell 72.2% year on year to Rs. 33 million. Expenditure also reduced considerably by 48.6% to Rs. 594.3 million.
The segment comprising Zee News, Zee Business, Zee 24 Taas, Zee Punjabi and 24 Ghanta reported an EBITDA of Rs. 208.3 million with 34% margin. New channels together racked up operating losses of Rs. 136.07 million in the quarter.

Update: We requested Paypal for an interview, seeking to understand better which RBI guidelines they need to comply with, and why even non-P2P electronic transfers were stopped after an apparent resolution on March 2nd. Has there been any significant change in policy? Which licenses are needed and what will Paypal have to do to comply with Indian regulations?

OnMobile Global CEO Arvind Rao began the companys conference call on a positive note, saying that though the last year was a bad year for the Indian VAS market (TRAI directive, price competition between telcos), “We’re beginning to see a turnaround: their (telcos) attention to VAS is swinging back in a very strong fashion.”

For the quarter ended June 2010, HT Media’s Internet business Firefly eVentures (under which are jobs classifieds site Shine.com and social networking portal DesiMartini.com) has experienced a 30% fall in revenues to Rs. 20 million from Rs. 28.6 million in the previous quarter. The segment’s EBITDA losses have reduced year on year to Rs. 87.4 million, but are again up sequentially. The sequential decline in performance is understandable: Firefly business is dominated by the Shine.com, and job classifieds tend to do well in Q4, as HR departments spend the remainder …

Vizisense, the audience measurement system from Komli Media, has gone freemium, launching paid options for audience measurement, over and above its free site statistics. This is in line with what Komli Media COO Prashant Mehta had told Medianama in an interview last month. Additionally, the company has also appointed Andrew James Reid as the MD of ViziSense Australia; Reid was with the Peer Group Media as MD before joining Vizisense.
